ASD - Autism Spectrum Disorders  (자폐 스펙트럼 장애) (also known as PDDs)

참고로 이 스펙트럼 안에는 다음 다섯가지 장애가 포함 됨 (2012년 기준):  

Autistic disorder (classic autism)

Asperger's disorder (Asperger syndrome)

Pervasive developmental disorder not otherwise specified (PDD-NOS)

Rett's disorder (Rett syndrome)

Childhood disintegrative disorder (CDD)

Behavior - 특수교육에서 흔히 쓰이는 단어로 돌발적 행동이나 행동이탈을 말함.        Inappropriate behavior를 짧게 behavior로 사용함.  

Body Socks (Sox) - 감각 처리 능력 장애 (sensory processing difficulties)나 ADHD 증세가 있는 어린이에게 자주 사용하는 '온 몸이 들어갈 수 있는 커다란 주머니' (영어로는 양말이라고 재밌게 표현함).  잘 늘어나고 온 몸을 감쌀 수 있는 이 커다란 주머니속에서 느끼는 안정감과 편안함을 통해 아이가 침착해지도록 도와 줌.      

DSM (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders) - 미국 정신의학 협회 (American Psychiatric Association)이 출판하는 정신질환 진단과 통계 편람. 특수교육 평가자료(evaluation report)를 이 자료를 사용하여서 장애가 있는지 없는지 검사하고, 있다면 어느 종류의 장애인지 파악하는 도구.

IEP - individualized educational plan  (개별화 교육계획표)    

Learning Disabilities (LDs) - (학습장애라고 불림.  보통 크게 세가지 종류로 나뉨:   dyslexia (언어장애), dysgraphia (쓰기장애), dyscalculia (산술장애).

PDDs - pervasive developmental delays  (전반적 발달 장애)

SPED - special education  (특수교육)

Weighted Vest - 잘 흥분되거나 쉽게 들뜨는 어린아이들에게 사용되는 '무게감 있는 조끼'.  조끼의 무게에서 오는 압력과 중압감이 아이의 긴장을 풀어주고 침착하게 도와주는 효과가 있음.  무게의 종류가 다양하고 벨트의 강도를 조절할 수 있음.  ADHD  증상이 있는 어린이에게 사용되기도 함.  장기간 오래 사용하는것을 피할 것.  OT와 상담한 뒤 사용할 것.
